Terri White, Broadway Star Coming to
the Back Mountain March 15, 2010
Terri White’s story has been featured in the New York Times, New York Daily News, People Magazine, CBS News with Katie Curric and even the Ellen Show.
Terri White, at the age of 61, after being in hit shows like Barnum, Ain’t Misbehavin, and performing along side such greats as Liza Minelli and Glenn Close could not find work. Even the piano bars were closing down. Terri White, after 50 years on stage, was broke and homeless. Ms. White found herself living in Washington Square Park, that is until officer David Taylor came along. Officer Taylor knew Terri White from better days and seeing her perform while off duty. To avoid the police, Ms. White would alternate sleeping for an hour and walking for an hour. That is when she ran into Officer Taylor walking his beat at 4 AM. He noticed that she looked “soulless” and was concerned for her safety. Officer Taylor made a few phone calls and found a basement apartment no one was using. Ms. White moved in the next day “rent “free. She got herself back into mental shape to take advantage of opportunities that were about to come her way. A friend in Key West FL invited her to perform at her nightclub and another friend bought her a plane ticket. While there she met Donna Barnett a Jewelry Designer. The two fell in love and moved in together. Then came the call to audition for an Encores! concert performance of Finian’s Rainbow. Ms. Barnett paid for her ticket back to New York City where Terri landed the part of “Finian’s” Dottie. Now it’s just over a year and Terri White’s life has completely changed. She’s had a great run in Finian’s Rainbow where all the New York critics raved about her performance. The show closed in January but don’t cry for Terri White as she has been asked to take over the roll of Momma Morton in the production of Chicago currently running on Broadway. This very talented woman is taking time off to come to Really Cooking Café & Supper Club this March 15, 2010 for a one night only cabaret performance. Come out and see the one and only Terri White in this incredibly intimate venue. Reservations are now being accepted.
